Love is a Stowaway

Today one of the greatest love stories I was a small part of has come to an end. I wonder if I am more heartbroken than the two lovers..

Divorces, break offs become compounded when both the people involved are your friends. It is difficult to be objective in love.

It is difficult to be objective in love because if you were able to be objective, you probably never would have fallen in love to begin with. This makes me wonder if entry of objectivity in a romantic relationship is the first sign of you falling out of love. After all like Bono said ... Love is blindness, I don't wanna see.

What is the science at work behind falling out of love? how does the skin of a person you made love to once start feeling strange even to touch? how do feelings that you once invested your every living breath in while expressing just get reduced to mere memories of words..? How does the joy of a heart overflowing with love suddenly transforms into an empty cauldron with echoes of pain...

Is love a mirage?

And if love is indeed a mirage then how does it quench real needs like our thirst, satiate our hunger? Are thirst & hunger just a state of mind that can be manipulated, satiated simply by a mirage? And if not, if they are real, then so must be love.  And if love is real, a physical state of our being..can it ever die without killing us too? Or is it just a part not the whole of us? And if love is just a part not the whole of our being...then why do we feel so empty when it dies?

Maybe love never dies, maybe it hides between our veins that frail our nerves, maybe it is the clog in our arteries that makes our heart ache... maybe love is like a mysterious stowaway living inside our body that our cells keep chasing but it never gets caught & that chase keeps us alive.

Perhaps which is why, when you first meet your lover, you feel a rush. Because in that very moment, the love stowaway in your body is running the fastest away from your brain cells.  And perhaps when you break off with your lover, you feel empty, experience great loss of energy, it almost feels like you are dead because love is hiding & cells have returned to your brain. Everything is so calm inside your body even though there might be a storm unleashing outside. Your body feels cold...in your heart, in your stomach, all over.

But make no mistake, it's only the calm before the storm ensues again when once again the love stowaway will come out of it's hiding and be back on the run and your cells will have to leave the comfort of home in your brain and start chasing the stowaway all over your body.

You know that tingling you feel in your toes, sweat in your hands, the flutter in your heart, the rush in your head and your lips involuntary break into a stupid quivering smile? Yes at that very moment there is this thrilling chase happening inside your body....
